Making Lemon Brownies

Random Bits of Fascination Posted on August 18, 2014 by Maria GraceJanuary 31, 2025

My youngest son turned sixteen this week and I made him lemon brownies because he asked for white cake. No, I actually haven’t lost my mind, really. My youngest child is my gentle child and he requires special listening skills to understand what he is saying. For his birthday we were trying to get the extended family together for dinner. It is always challenging to bring all of us together. While I am blessed that … Continue reading →

Not the Dishwasher too!

Random Bits of Fascination Posted on August 11, 2014 by Maria GraceJanuary 31, 2025

Some weeks–or months–are tougher than others. You know, those stretches where everything seems to fall apart at the same time–well, I’m in the middle of one of those. Let’s see: brakes and tires on one car, the A/C on another car, the A/C in the house, and two cats got really sick and had generous vet bills. The kitties recovered, thankfully and I learned how to make kitty milkshakes and force feed them to cats. … Continue reading →

New words come into lay and may be gone in an instant, or they may stay around for a very long time. I found some very familiar terms in this offering of Regency era language pertaining to children. Infants Bantling Brat Chit   Lullaby Cheat Boys Young shaver Kid Little Breeches Girls … Continue reading →

Grace under Pressure

Random Bits of Fascination Posted on August 4, 2014 by Maria GraceJanuary 31, 2025

Ever since I started this blog, I have been trying to figure out how to share a little bit of me in addition to the history digests, Regency Life articles, interviews and fiction. While I’m not sure I have a good answer yet, I thought I would try something anyway. So here is a new feature, aptly named ‘Grace under Pressure.’ Why call it that? Well, I found this great quote by Hemingway… All right, … Continue reading →

Lady Russell Hints about Dangers of Mrs. Clay

Random Bits of Fascination Posted on July 15, 2014 by Maria GraceSeptember 12, 2018

Will Lady Russell ever be able to have a conversation with Anne that is not painful and difficult? LADY RUSSELL SIPPED HER tea but Anne merely stared at hers.  Something was on Anne’s mind—something more than the family’s impending change in circumstances, something very troubling. Perhaps she should mind her own business. That was an appealing thought. But if she did not ask, she knew there was no one else who would take an interest … Continue reading →
