What do Show Chickens have to do with Dragons? Everything!

Random Bits of Fascination Posted on March 14, 2017 by Maria GraceJanuary 31, 2025

It kind of goes without saying that historical fiction takes tons of research. Tons. Literally heaps and gobs of it. Great stacks and piles. I thought my doctoral dissertation took a lot of research. That was nothing in comparison to the thousands of pages I have read and saved on my hard drive. History=Research. OK. Moving on. What has surprised the daylights out of me is how much time I spend researching things that do … Continue reading →

Happy National Black Cat Day

Random Bits of Fascination Posted on October 27, 2016 by Maria GraceJanuary 31, 2025

Happy National Black Cat Day! It comes as no surprise to you, I am sure, that I’m a cat lover. (But NOT a crazy cat-lady mind you…) I love cats of all shapes and sizes and colors, but I confess to having a special soft spot for black cats. They make sure I am nice and warm when I hang out in my writing chair, working on something the old fashioned way. Even when I’m typing they make certain that my hands … Continue reading →

A Little Colorful Language: Cacklers, Mowers, Woolbirds and Swing tails

Random Bits of Fascination Posted on September 2, 2014 by Maria GraceMay 20, 2021

We have a house full of cats and a dog who thinks she a momma-cat.  They all have their own proper names. But they’ve also got multiple nicknames each. I may just incorporate a few of these regency Era slang terms as new nicknames for them! Cat Grimalkin.  Tibby. Ram Cat. A he cat. Gib Cat. A northern name for a he-cat, there commonly called Gilbert. Cherry-coloured Cat. A black cat, their being black cherries as well as red. Smellers. A … Continue reading →

Why you need to read washing directions!

Random Bits of Fascination Posted on October 22, 2012 by Maria GraceAugust 19, 2018

Sometimes the cats just insist that they need to be an internet cat meme. Who am I to argue?
