Books and Chocolate-November 2022
What more does a girl need than a pile of books and a bowl of chocolate? Let’s talk about what we’ve been reading and feeding our inner chocoholics.
With the holidays hurriedly approaching, a good book in which to escape the hustle and bustle is a necessity. Here are a couple that definitely fit the bill.
Just so you know, links below are Amazon associate links, so if you buy anything through them, I will get a couple of pennies from that.
His Majesty’s Dragon
Aerial combat brings a thrilling new dimension to the Napoleonic Wars as valiant warriors rise to Britain’s defense by taking to the skies . . . not aboard aircraft but atop the mighty backs of fighting dragons.
When I started writing Jane Austen’s Dragons, people started recommended this series to me. I hesitated reading it until I had my own dragon world firmly established. I didn’t want to inadvertently borrow another author’s dragon world building. I needn’t have waited though. Naomi Novik’s world is delightfully different from the Blue Order world. And I love it.
Her dragons are beautiful characters and her world is fully realized, rich with detail. Her premise is absolutely intriguing. A must for anyone who loves dragons and the Regency Era.
The Mermaid’s Sister
There is no cure for being who you really are…
I didn’t know what to expect from this one, but the cover sold me. (Yes, I know that is sad and shallow, but I’m just being honest.) The premise is pretty interesting though. Two orphan girls, adopted by an intriguing older woman, grow up as sisters. One finds herself turning into a mermaid and has to get to the ocean or die. Her sister takes on the quest.
Not quite a full-on Gaslamp fantasy, not quite a fairy tale, this story lands somewhere delightfully between. Full of interesting characters and just the right amount of action, I enjoyed it thoroughly.
Do you have any books that were definitely not your usual fair, but you finished anyway and they have stuck with you? Tell me in the comments.
