Everyone talks to Anne

Random Bits of Fascination Posted on September 26, 2014 by Maria GraceSeptember 12, 2018

Never had Anne had so many seeking her ear and her counsel. But as much as things were different, many things remained unchanged. ANNE PULLED HER SHAWL around her shoulders more tightly and slipped outside, the sun still so low on the horizon, only the servants were about. A fresh breeze teased, begging her to come out and partake of the morning, a far more appealing invitation than Mary’s snores filtering from her open window. The … Continue reading →

And it lives!!!!

Random Bits of Fascination Posted on September 23, 2014 by Maria GraceJanuary 31, 2025

What lives you ask? Several things actually. First and foremost, my dishwasher! We had to call out a repair man, but were blessed with the world’s best repair tech.  He’d been doing it 45 years, since he apprenticed at age 14! He showed us the part (a little electronic thingy on the digital control panel) told us he could replace it for $240 or we could buy the part at a store he recommended for … Continue reading →

Family dinner…continuing a tradition

Random Bits of Fascination Posted on September 15, 2014 by Maria GraceJanuary 31, 2025

One of the big things in our family is family dinners.  We try to eat together every night, but with two college students and a high schooler in marching bad, that isn’t always so easy.  Still we manage to eat together more nights than not. My boys like food and I like to cook, so all it all that works out pretty well. I’m no Master Chef contestant, but they like what I cook. And … Continue reading →

A $5 roll of contact paper

Random Bits of Fascination Posted on September 8, 2014 by Maria GraceJanuary 31, 2025

As the only female in a house full of men–and no the dog doesn’t count!–I often feel at a loss for things pretty. I can do without pink and lacy and frilly, but pretty, that I need. Especially in my work space.  There in lies the problem.  I share an office with my husband.  He arranged the room as only an engineer armed with graph paper and a tape measure could. I bet you wouldn’t … Continue reading →

A Little Colorful Language: Cacklers, Mowers, Woolbirds and Swing tails

Random Bits of Fascination Posted on September 2, 2014 by Maria GraceMay 20, 2021

We have a house full of cats and a dog who thinks she a momma-cat.  They all have their own proper names. But they’ve also got multiple nicknames each. I may just incorporate a few of these regency Era slang terms as new nicknames for them! Cat Grimalkin.  Tibby. Ram Cat. A he cat. Gib Cat. A northern name for a he-cat, there commonly called Gilbert. Cherry-coloured Cat. A black cat, their being black cherries as well as red. Smellers. A … Continue reading →
