Books and Chocolate-April 2025

What more does a girl need than a pile of books and a bowl of chocolate? How about a fresh look for the Books and Chocolate mascot? I’d like to introduce Ruby, the books and chocolate dragon. I’m excited to have her on board, but just a little concerned that she’s going to be like the other dragons in my life and demand to have her share of the conversation.
While we wait for Ruby to find her voice, let’s talk about what we’ve been reading and feeding our inner chocoholics.
I read these last year and then realized that I hadn’t shared them with you! Bad author, bad author–I know, (Busy author, busy author, got distracted with writing words, which is what she’s supposed to do–Ruby)
Ok, well that didn’t take long, did it? Welcome to the conversation Ruby!
So, about these books….
Just so you know, links below are Amazon associate links, so if you buy anything through them, I will get a couple of pennies from that.
Innate Magic (The Marrowbone Spells Book 1)
Delightfully cheeky, unquestionably charming, and sometimes maddeningly naive, cloth mage Paul Gallagher is desperately trying to make a name for himself in a reimagined postwar London. But in a world where magic is commonplace, sewing enchanted clothes is seen as little more than a frivolous distraction. Paul is hiding a secret, however: he possesses a powerful—and illegal—innate magic that could help him achieve his wildest dreams.
This was a fun exploration of a new world and a new magic system. I’m looking forward to the next in the series.
—But there were no dragons in this book, and that was a serious flaw, in my cold-blooded opinion.–Ruby
Well other than that obvious flaw, what did you think?
—It was a perfectly adequeate book that could have been improved with the addition of dragons.--Ruby
Fair enough, I suppose. But it might be a good idea to expand your horizons just a bit?
—harumph—
All right, how about a dragon book next?
—I’ll consider it.—
That Dragon was in No Way My Fault
Bob Ironspell-Cabas, known as Ironspell, is a rookie officer on his third day in the Denver Police Department Supernatural Unit or DPDS. His partner and mentor takes him to the Denver Zoo, thinking that it’ll be a good training opportunity. Instead, they discover a deranged sorcerer has let loose a dragon
I admit, I got this one for the title alone…
—As you should have. It is an excellent and noteworthy title–Ruby
That’s why I picked it up–I think I just said that.
—Just clarifying that I agree with you—
Ah, thanks. In any case, it was a fun little book when I needed a few laughs.
—Laughs? You are laughing at dragons? You consider us laugh-worthy?—
Calm down, Ruby, it was a compliment. Really.
—harumph—
Ok, so this is going to be an interesting partnership. In any case, you might find this one fun. I just got the second in the serious and I’ll let you know how that goes later. Assumming Ruby allows me to have a share in the conversation.

Maria,
I love Ruby! What a wonderful companion you have. When are you going to introduce her to Wingspan? I think that they will get along famously!
Right now I am reading a Gemma and Tate mystery by Irina Shapiro. I hope that I spelled her name correctly. Then I am also reading a Fanfiction, “The Aunt,” which is being revised. Elizabeth is not a Bennet, but the niece of Mr. and Mrs. Bennet. They stole her from Mr. Bennet’s sister. They told her Elizabeth died at birth! Such cruel people!
Will Ruby get her own book?
