Books and Chocolate-January 2024

What more does a girl need than a pile of books and a bowl of chocolate? Let’s talk about what we’ve been reading and feeding our inner chocoholics.
The last six weeks of 2024 was a bit fraught between the holidays and getting the new series launched. We had our first ever family retreat over Thanksgiving which had thirteen of us, comprising four generations,in a house together for four days. It was absolutly fantastic, but between planning and executing that, then all the rest, time for reading was a bit limited. Trying to get back to unwinding with a book at night again, and it’s really nice.
Despite not getting much read during that time, I did pick up this one after having started the Netflix series. Ironically, I finished the book, but not the series yet! So I guess its safe to say the book is definitely better. What better-than-the-movie books have you read recently?
Just so you know, links below are Amazon associate links, so if you buy anything through them, I will get a couple of pennies from that.
Discovery of Witches
Diana Bishop, a young scholar and a descendant of witches, discovers a long-lost and enchanted alchemical manuscript, Ashmole 782, deep in Oxford’s Bodleian Library. Its reappearance summons a fantastical underworld, which she navigates with her leading man, vampire geneticist Matthew Clairmont.
I’m not generally a vampire-type gal, but when this one led with a scholar and an enchanted mansucript, I had to check it out. The thing that stuck out to me the most about this one was the richness of the setting. This is one of those books where you can actually feel yourself there with the characters–who, don’t get me wrong, are definitely worth hanging out with. So if you want one of those rich escape books, give this one a try!
Discovery of Witches sucked me in so deep, that I bought the entire trilogy. Plus, I have all three seasons of the video. She has started a second trilogy, and I’ve read the first two and am eagerly awaiting the next book. I really love her world.
There are now 5 books in the series – I’ve read the first 4 and the 5th is on my to be read pile.
