Books and Chocolate~September 2024
What more does a girl need than a pile of books and a bowl of chocolate? Let’s talk about what we’ve been reading and feeding our inner chocoholics.
Sometimes we read books that we choose for ourselves, and sometimes we read books because we’re supposed to for one reason for another. Sadly many of these ‘supposed to books’ are ones we rush through and would like to forget, disliking every page we were forced to read. (Can you tell I remember grad school well?)
Then there are a rare few that we ended up loving and would have been sad to have missed. This is one of those rare books.
Just so you know, links below are Amazon associate links, so if you buy anything through them, I will get a couple of pennies from that.
Life Expectancy
We are born for wonder, for joy, for hope, for love, to marvel at the mystery of existence, to be ravished by the beauty of the world, to seek truth and meaning, to acquire wisdom, and by our treatment of others to brighten the corner where we are.
That’s not exactly the kind of quote you expect from a psychological thriller. But it is exactly the reason I was amazed by the book. I’m not a Koontz fan–he’s an amazing writer, but I’m not a thriller sort of gal–raising three sons to productive was enough thrills for a lifetime! But this book was assigned for a writing class that I’m taking, I wasn’t thrilled, but hey I’ve read A LOT of stuff for classes in my lifetime, much of it wouldn’t have been my pick of reading material. So I hunkered down with it. And WOW.
I have rarely been so taken with a main character so quickly in a book, and been willing to ride the roller coaster with him and his family to make sure he gets his happily every after–which is not assured in this genre. Jimmy Tock and his clan are utterly amazing characters that I want for real life friends. Even if you’re not a thriller reader, this one is totally worth reading!
“The Women” by Hannah Kristin. I didn’t think I’d like it, but a friend of mine insisted I read it. Wow!! It was fantastic. And it’s one book I can’t recommend enough. Truly fascinating, and a wild emotionally charged roller coaster.
