Best Random Bits of 2022
Before we launch into a fascinating new year, join me in looking over the Random Bits we shared in 2022.
History and Research Rabbit holes
I have to be honest, we looked at more food that I realized, the most satisfying of which was tracking down the recipe for Clear Cakes that had been driving me nuts for years. (Note to self, if you mention a recipe in a book, make darn sure you record exactly what period cookbook it came from!) Apparently I have more of a sweet tooth than I realized since we also looked at Historic Chocolate Cookies, Primative Sugar candy, and Candied Violets. But there were savory treats in the mix as well, like Tarragon, Making Butter, and Butter Boiled Chicken.
On full stomachs, we visited some interesting places, Chocolate Houses, Market Towns, Buttercrosses, including the Bungay Buttercross, and perhaps the most unusual, a Hearse House.
While we were out and about, we spent some money, learning the Basics of Regency Currency, The Real Value of a Pound, and where a Gentleman’s Income came from. We wrote some letters with A Touch of Qulll and Ink, and sorted out how to use The Long S. And we met A Riding Officer along the way.
And we met the Welsh Dragon and the Wantley Dragon along the way.
I am overwhelmed at how much you research. I cannot keep up. Happy New Year.
