Books and Chocolate-July 2025

We’re deep in the summer heat her, and chocolate turns to liquid the moment you step out the door with it. So what’s a girl to do? Curl up inside with chocolate and a good book!
Ruby and I have been holed-up with some really fun books recently and I can’t wait to share them with you.
Just so you know, links below are Amazon associate links, so if you buy anything through them, I will get a couple of pennies from that.
What Comes of Attending the Commoners Ball
Hester Flanders went to the ball for the food. She didn’t expect a prince to follow her home.
If there’s one rule Hester learned during her country upbringing, it’s never accept a gift: that’s how the Folk get you. Although she’s left her farm behind, she can’t leave her superstitions, even if no one else in the capital city seems to care. Hardworking but hungry, she’s looking for loopholes, and the king’s annual Commoners Ball seems like the perfect way to get a free meal that’s not technically a gift—and it would have been, too, except a pesky prince took a shine to her.
This was such an incredibly fun book, with definite Cinderella vibes, but a delightful twist that made it a perfect summer treat. Definitely recommend this one!
Lady Avely’s Guide to Truth and Magic
A Regency widow shouldn’t be hunting spectres all night.
Lady Judith Avely’s magical gift for divining the truth makes her prodigiously good at lying. To absolve a guilty secret, she travels to the exiled Duke of Sargen’s estate, but the last thing she expects is to run into the duke himself, who is lamentably now even more attractive than in his volatile youth.
This one had two things going for it at the start, a Regency setting and a mature heroine with a bit of spunk and attitude. Her still at identifying lis only made her that much more fun. I think you’ll love it.

Sometimes the hero is the wrong guy at the right time. Sometimes the hero is drunk.
When Amy prays for a savior, Loki—Norse God of Mischief and Chaos—isn’t who she expects. But Loki can’t resist her summons, even if he insists she help him outwit Odin, ruler of the Nine Realms. Can Amy trust a god known for betrayal? And with something ancient and evil stirring beneath Chicago’s streets… can Loki even trust himself?
Wolves (Part I)
Amy is being chased by a very bad wolf. Loki wakes up in a prison cell, hungover and forgotten—but Odin is definitely up to something. A jaded god and a midwestern girl must join forces to outwit gods, elves, magic-sniffing cats, and nosy neighbors.
Monsters (Part II)
After being attacked, dragged to another realm, and losing everything, Amy has a new plan—if she can keep her job. Agent Steve Rogers just wanted a political career, but Norse gods keep messing that up. Meanwhile, Loki’s goals are clear: he wants Asgard to burn.
Chaos (Part III)
Loki’s enemies are closing in. A frost giantess wants him dead. A World Seed wants his head. The FBI wants him in prison. And someone from Asgard wants him back… whether he agrees or not.
In the Balance (Novella)
Before saving the universe, Loki gave Amy all his memories—and one request: Remember for me. Now Amy waits, hoping he’ll find her again.
