Updates From the Dragon-Lady’s Desk
Now that we’re into the new year, I suppose it is time for some updates. I started the next dragon book a few weeks ago. Looks like we’ll be checking in on the Wentworths and Kellynch for the next installment. I wasn’t sure for a while there until I got the picture of the first scene in my head, then away we went.
There are already a couple of old faces making an appearance, in this one. I have no idea who else is going to show up, so I wouldn’t rule out anyone at this point!
Would you be surprised to hear it looks like this is going to be another one where I thought it was going one direction and BAM! In flies a dragon and completely takes over the show. Yeah, that again.
And this time it took less than 5000 words for the unruly dragon to make her appearance. So, yeah I think this is going to be an interesting ride.
I’m not making any estimates on when it will be done yet, though I am about 35K words into it at the moment. I need a little more time with the characters to figure out just how big a story this is going to be.
In other writing news, in keeping with a promise I made to my kids, I’m working on something entirely new. A new series, in a new fantasy world, set in 1870’s Brighton. Here’s the premise:
Between the money-lender pounding on her front door and the Guild demanding dues –protection money, really—would-be- Master Wright Rebecca Fuller can barely make ends meet. So, when the wealthiest family in Brighton approaches her for a job, she is in no place to refuse.
But good fortune always comes at a price. In this case renewed scrutiny from the Wright’s Guild, the money-lender, and possibly the royal family—something absolutely no one needs. Just as it seems she has things under control, Guild Recording Officer Rober Fuller (no relation, of course, just an unfortunate coinscidence) show up and proves, yes, indeed, things can get more complicated.
She is going to need all her skills, smarts, and a good bit of luck, keep her shop running, achieve Master rank, and her preserve her reputation.
What do you think of the new premise? Tell me in the comments!
Don’t worry, I’m not giving up writing dragons for the new World Wrights series, I promise. I am really excited, though, to be embarking on something brand new, alongside of the dragons.
Sounds wonderful
The new series sounds exciting and mysterious. Blessings on all your hard work.
This sounds rather interesting. But it comes at a cost to you – you’ll have to write faster to keep us happy!
Looking forward to the new series as long as dragons are not forgotten, lol
