Reason #5 Why writing takes so long
#5 Matching Accessories
An appropriate environment is important for getting in the right frame of mind for a creative endeavor. It helps the muse settle in and get comfortable for a long day of inspiration.
Matching accessories are a big part of welcoming one’s muse into a creative space–at least according to my muse.
Your Mileage May Vary.
My muse likes things to be matching and harmonious, and well, pretty. Cats, according to said muse are pretty, so they are welcome in the space.
But, that means I have to make sure that everything matches and coordinates with the cats!
On one hand, it is convenient that they come in so many colors–flame point (nearly white), buff, ginger, black, and a brown tabby–at least one of them should match anything, after all everything goes with black or white, right?
But no, not only does the muse want color matching, muses like themes. Themes, yes, themes. And what is their favorite theme? Check out the mug, it’s not difficult to guess.
With the latest influx of dragons, and the bevy of humming birds around the desk, I have been informed in no uncertain terms that the cat-to-kitch ratio is falling to desperate proportions and the cats are ready to take things into their own paws. How kind of them.
Recently, instead of one desk cat, I have two. Must be an improvement, right? And if there’s not enough space on the desk, never fear, they kindly clear it for me so they can improve the ambiance.
In the same vein, if there’s a cat in the cat bed, wouldn’t it be better if there were two instead of one? In case it wasn’t obvious, the answer is sometimes. When the frenemies are friendly, there’s nothing cuter. When the frenemies are tussling, yeah, not so much.
So, not only must I find time to write, it seems I must also find to ensure all the accessories match the cats!
I’m sorry. I don’t mean to laugh at your distress, frustration, or joy, but this was hilarious. I praise you for your endurance and where-with-all [snicker] to deal with all the shenanigans thrust upon your precious writing time by those crib-mates… writing assistance… um… desk dwellers. LOL!! Carry on!!
Yes, cats are enormously helpful when it comes to writing. The strolling in front of the computer screen, stretching, sitting right in the center of your view and gazing deeply into your eyes is their way of attempting to convey the muse’s wisdom. When you don’t get that hint, they move on to the next thing. Sitting directly in your line of sight in front of your screens whilst washing their paws and face and, er, behind parts, show concern for your health. They are helpfully reminding you to get some exercise. Clearly you need a walk to the pet food store to buy their favorite treats. And yes, your mug is quite correct. A cat in your lap is a loving reminder that you need to rest, take it easy, be kind to yourself and feed them treats whilst scratching behind their ears and under their chins. If you care for yourself as the cats remind you to – and that includes appropriate accessories – then the muse will be extra kind to you with the aid of her furry helpers. That’s my story and I’m sticking with it.
