Laconia: the new ship’s cat — 9 Comments

  1. Note… we seem to have a double post.

Oh, I knew how it would be… Wentworth with a dragon. I love that the name will be Laconia. Yea!!! I am beyond excited. This is fabulous. Thank you for continuing with the dragons. Can’t wait for this one.

  2. I enjoyed reading this twice ?!
Does he know that Anne can hear dragons as well? It’s been a long time so I can’t remember apart from Anne realising that Lady Russel was a dragon and that her father was too lazy to look after things?
Maybe Wentworth should return to England and give Anne another chance!
I’m glad he has a friend though as he was lonely so hopefully Laconia will bring him luck with Anne as well as his ship.

  3. Yay!!!!! I love Laconia already!! What a perfect Friend for Wentworth!!

I’ve missed the dragons and am soooo happy to read more Persuasion-based dragon stories!!! So excited!!!

I lent all but the first P&P & dragons books to the girls at church, and I have yet to receive them back. They are passing them around and writing their own fanfiction stories based on your series. They’ve created artwork from the covers and are absolutely fascinated. So am I!!

Thank you soooo much, Maria, for this gem; after the very rough weeks I’ve experienced in settling my parents into a retirement community (Dad has advanced Alzheimer’s and Mom has second-level dementia and uses a wheelchair most days; we try to get her to use the walker; both have had multiple skin cancer procedures in the last four months), with Mom fighting us all the way. So thank you for the joy of dragons!!! I very much needed this!!

    Warmly,
    Susanne 🙂

  4. I’m another one who’s so pleased to see more Persuasion-based dragons! I love the idea of a ship’s cat being a tatzelwurm named after the ship. But will Frederick be able to take Laconia along to Kellynch and Bath when he ends up back on land, as he does in canon?

Like Susanne, the past few months have been a bit of a trail for me, too. Losing the second of our two dogs in May, seven months (to the day) after the the first and then less than two months later, at the beginning of July, hubby was in hospital following a heart attack. Reading has been a great solace and distraction during this time, though I’ve not had as much time for it as I normally would have had. By the way, I’m convinced that the dog we lost in May was a dragon in disguise! He would often curl up in a pose very similar to illustrations I’ve seen of Smaug from The Hobbit. Sadly, I was never able to get a photo of him like that. He’d always shift position just as I got the shot lined up! Some sort of draconic sixth sense, do you think?

Can’t wait for more dragon stories. I’ll always make time for them!

Right now, I’m off to re-read Sanditon in advance of the new TV production which starts tonight here in the UK. The cast looks pretty good (especially Anne Reid as Lady Denham) but apparently the events of the fragment we have are all over and done with in the first half of the first episode of, I think, eight. It’s going to be interesting to see where Andew Davies takes the story.

  5. How exciting!!!! Wentworth has a dragon. I love it. I need to go re-read your books. And searach for the Persuasion dragon book.

  6. I absolutely loved this! So perfect for Frederick to find a new dragon friend the way he did — being a hero! The “things” dropping poor little Laconia there makes me wonder if there are anymore eggs in the area. In any case, i am so excited to read this bit and see that Freddy won’t be too lonely anymore. I suspect Laconia will help soften his heart toward Anne later and help him see that she only did what she did because she had been persuaded by a dragon! Man, i cannot wait for more of this story. Hurry up and write it! (every one makes me want to write my own dragon-Austen story)
