Books and Chocolate~November 2024
What more does a girl need than a pile of books and a bowl of chocolate? Let’s talk about what we’ve been reading and feeding our inner chocoholics.
Sometimes it’s fun to dabble in genres you doing always reach for. This was a fun romp into a Victorian mystery.
Just so you know, links below are Amazon associate links, so if you buy anything through them, I will get a couple of pennies from that.
Maids of Misfortune
It’s the summer of 1879, and Annie Fuller, a young San Francisco widow, is in trouble. Annie’s husband squandered her fortune before committing suicide five years earlier, and one of his creditors is now threatening to take the boardinghouse she owns to pay off a debt.
Annie Fuller also possesses a secret. She supplements her income by giving domestic and business advice as Madam Sibyl, one of San Francisco’s most exclusive clairvoyants, and one of Madam Sibyl’s clients, Matthew Voss, has died and she think’s its murder.
I enjoyed the pluck of this heroine, and her resourcefulness is making the best of a bad situation. She definitely passed the “Would I invite this heroine to tea’ test. I think you’ll send her an invite, too.
