What more does a girl need than a pile of books and a bowl of chocolate? Let’s talk about what we’ve been reading and feeding our inner chocoholics.
One of my favorite books growing up was a huge collection of fairy tales from around the world. It was a red and gold hardback, about four inches thick. A really impressive looking tome. I still have the book and it has an honored spot on my shelves. So many of the tales were anything but happily ever after and I certainly had my own ideas about how they should have ended. That might have influenced my course to being a writer.
The books below are fairy tale retellings that caught me and held me to the very last page.
Just so you know, links below are Amazon associate links, so if you buy anything through them, I will get a couple of pennies from that.
Dance
A dutiful daughter. A prince forced to find a bride. If the shoe fits…
Once upon a time…
When the Emperor’s army comes recruiting, Mai signs up, seeing it as the perfect escape from her stepmother and a lifetime of drudgery. Armed with her mother’s armor and a pair of magic shoes, Mai marches off to war…only to find herself sharing a tent with the General’s arrogant nephew, Prince Yi.
This Cinderella retelling was delightful twist on the original tale. A new but familiar path to the required happily-ever-after. Definitely worth the read.
Enchant
A beastly prince. An enchanting beauty. Only love can break the spell.
Once upon a time…
The wicked King Thorn forced the enchantress Zuleika to cast a terrible curse. She fled his court to travel the world, helping those who need her magic most. Until a search for her merchant father’s lost ships leads her to an enchanted island, where Prince Vardan, the island’s ruler, is afflicted by the most powerful curse Zuleika has ever encountered.
This one was free last I check, so it maybe it still will be! Check it out!
It’s a lovely take on the Beauty and the Beast story, with unexpected turns, that definitely fit the story. A curl up with a cup of tea book!

I love Dance, it’s my favourite of Demelza’s Romance a Medieval Fairytale.
I really need to buy the 11 titles I don’t yet own.
