Pemberley: Mr. Darcy’s Dragon
In which the author is glad she listened to her children.
From the beginning, my family has be involved in my books. So, one day, I took my three boys to the local pizza buffets and we got to talking. One of them thought my books needed more dragons.
He had a good point.
So then we started talking about about dragons could have functioned during the Regency era, and at some point the plot started making sense.
About 700,000 words later, I’m workng on what will be books 9, 10 and 11 of the series.
I give you …
Pemberley: Mr. Darcy’s Dragon
It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a dragon.
Fitzwilliam Darcy of Pemberley has the good fortune to be in possession of the first English firedrake egg laid in a century. Or, at least, he was until some miscreant stole it.
Mr. Darcy tracks the thief to Hertfordshire. Catching the thief, however, proves to be an entirely different kettle of brimstone, especially when he encounters fellow Dragon Keeper, Miss Elizabeth Bennet of Longbourn.
Elizabeth Bennet’s deep connection to dragons and remarkable grasp of their lore make her the ideal companion for finding the egg. It’s too bad that from their introduction she finds Darcy arrogant, conceited, and selfishly disdainful of the feelings of others.
Time is running out for Darcy to win Elizabeth’s trust and recover the precious egg before it hatches, and the fragile peace between humans and dragons is lost forever.
I love my job. But there are some parts of my job that I love, well, more than others. Jane Austen’s Dragons is one of those. I count myself incredibly lucky to be partnering with Maria to bring this great series to life in audiobook form.
Just finished my initial read-through of book 8, and I can’t wait to get going on it!
So – thank your 3 boys for me. 🙂 My kids & wife love the books too.
I suspect you have legions of fans who are very glad you listened to your sons’ suggestion that your books needed more dragons.
This has been a wonderful and remarkable series, and I have enjoyed every minute and every word of each book. Many thanks to your boys for their suggestion, and to you for following up on it!
This retrospective has been interesting. I’ve liked your books from the first, starting with the Given Good Principles series all the way to the dragons. You have definitely grown as an author, but even the very first ones are still excellent, highly recommended, books!
I love these books. I love all things dragon. The last book was so much fun with young Pemberly dancing along with Darcy and Elizabeth. The younger generation is definitely showing everyone how things should be done.
I have read this stories in this series and enjoyed them. I do have to read the latest one…soon.
I love these books. I love Elizabeth and her abilities with the dragons. Heavy sigh. I usually have my mouth hanging open in a most unsightly way because I am so amazed at what is happening on the page. Well done.
