National Dog Day 2020
This year’s National Dog Day is bittersweet. Just after Easter we lost our faithful fairy dog-mother. I’m still brokenhearted and weeping even now, so that is all I’ll say on that.
Two weeks later, far earlier than I was ready, this ragged rescue came into our lives thanks to the efforts of a wonderful dog foster family and my youngest son who desperately wanted a dog. Her ears have been burned, she has buckshot in her hind leg, and she will always get around with a funny sort of limp, but somehow she has remained sweet and gentle and ready to love our entire family, even the furry ones.
Welcome protector of the grandbabies, devoted companion to my son, and snuzzler of cats.
We lost our Australian shepherd baby, Autumn, to cancer three years ago. We miss her still so much and I find myself still tearing up still to this day. She is out of pain and is at rest but never far from our hearts.
That’s so sweet! My older daughter has a rescue dog (or hand-me-down dog, I’ve forgotten the details frankly) that was born with 3 1/2 legs. He’s a total goof, and never seems to notice that one leg is functionally missing. He does have trouble jumping, and you know how dogs lose their purchase on smooth wood floors – he has extra trouble with those. But he’s a sweetheart, and gets along really well with her other dog and her elderly Guinea Pig.
I am blurry-eyed just looking at your photos. My husband is allergic so even though I had both dog and cat pets growing up I didn’t have any as an adult. All of my children have either or both so I love those “grand-pets”. Thanks for sharing.
I’m delighted she got her forever home but I’m sad reading this post. Just today I got the news that our old gentleman, a Labrador Cross, has a very bad heart and time is running out quickly. He’s eleven years old and my heart is broken over this. I know exactly how you’re feeling.
I am so sorry for your loss. However, I am glad you have a new buddy in your family. Love the pictures of one contented dog. Bless you for taking the chance and so soon… even while your heart was breaking… you opened it a bit more to include another. Blessings to you and yours. Watch that approaching storm… I hope it doesn’t get too close to you. By the time it gets to us, here in south central KY, it will only be a TD but we are still right in the center of the path. Be safe everyone, take care, wear masks, and stay healthy.
I am sorry you lost your fur baby some months ago, but maybe he sent your new fur baby to you to take his place.
We lost our husky a few summers ago, and we found our current rescue ( chihuahua/terrier mix) soon thereafter. They are so different, but we love them both the same.
