Reason #71 Why writing takes so long
#71 I fits, so I sits
Anyone who has lived with cats knows well that life with fickle felines becomes more complicated in a myriad of ways. starting with the obvious: everything, and I do mean literally everything is covered in cat hair.
The meows in the middle of the night reminding you that a poor, starving, twelve to fourteen-pound little kitten is on the other side of the door, and he might not make it through the night if not fed immediately. The snubbing of whatever food you might offer said starving beast.
The chair you want to sit in becomes the absolutely only piece of furniture available to the exhausted creature who mysteriously expands to fill all the accessible space on said furniture (all the while adding a fresh coating of cat hair, lest it somehow had become denuded.) And if it is the use of the desk you want, well, that suddenly becomes the most desirable perch in the room, double points if there are books or papers on said desk that you need to be able to access. Then those are the most comfortable spot and heaven help you if you try to ease them out from under a fuzzy little backside!
Naturally, if it is the least bit cold, the computer becomes an excellent source of warms. Laptops must be cuddled, with extra style points added if a keyboard can be rendered inoperable, or better yet, random keys pressed in the process.
But now, in the midst of a global pandemic, my feline crew have adopted a new twist on the adage: If I fits, I sits. Now, I regularly find one of my furry co-writers lounging in the sink in order to make the now-even-more-critical handwashing endeavours as difficult as it can possibly be. So, now I need not only find a sink, but one that is currently unoccupied as well.
Such helpful little co-workers, aren’t they?
Obviously what you need is a spare room equipped with an old laptop, a comfy chair and desk (with papers), a sink, food supply and MOST importantly…………a lock and ear plugs! Maybe then you could write for ten minutes before just having to release them ?
Good idea Glynis! I have changed my mind about getting a kitten!
Ah yes, our furry felines friends have a myriad of way of reminding us of their presence and the supreme importance of tending to their smallest desires. Annoying habits notwithstanding, that soft cuddly critter is so comforting when one is struggling to get through a hard day. They also can inspire thoroughly amusing blog posts. A good thing!
My cat, Bella, loves to sit in the bathroom sink and keep me company while I put on my makeup. I run the water to keep her out of it so I can brush my teeth. When I’m ready to put on my makeup, I turn off the water. She laps up the water left in the sink and then plops down in it!
OMG! I love these posts. They are so funny. I may have to get a cat. Maybe, on second thought, I should get a dog. I don’t believe they are as temperamental. Ye think?
