The Texas Dip or Bowing to Dragons
I needed some real life inspiration for what proper dragon greetings would look like. I had the privilege of talking to a high school chum who was a real-life debutant and she pointed me to this: The Texas Dip. A formal curtsey required of many debutantes, it is not for the faint hearted or weak-kneed! But it is a lovely picture of what the Blue Order Cotillion might have included.
And what it would look like in full dress:
That’s impressive.
Wow – that’s pretty complicated! I wonder who came up w/ it? It would be very difficult for anyone with some kind of balance or movement challenge.
I was hoping to see one of them get up, too – and there it was, in the 2nd video. I tried it myself. Getting down wasn’t that much of an issue (at least, when wearing flats) but getting up took quite a bit of finagling. That would definitely take practice, and the kind of practice that is hard on knees regardless of age, but certainly much harder on really-no-longer-a-teen knees!
That is amazing. I would fall.
I’m not even going to try that. OMG! That was amazing and very complicated. I could hear my knees creaking just thinking about it. Yeah, I can see something like this used in the Blue Order. Great find. Thanks for sharing the videos.
Long ago I was able to bend like that and get up without help – not in my old age with arthritic knees…thank you. Only for the young and spry! Thanks for sharing.
