This week I had the privilege of visiting with the  South Montgomery County-Friends of the Library and speaking on one of my favorite topics–Christmas celebrations during the Regency era.

It is always a special treat to get to hang out with other Austen enthusiasts in real life.

The group served an afternoon tea with a Texas twist. What’s a Texas twist? Iced tea of course!

When it’s still in the 90’s outside the tea HAS to be iced–right? (Ducking as I know a few of you are apt to start throwing things at me soon…)

But we also had some amazing shortbread cookies, shaped like tea bags with little tags bearing Jane Austen’s profile. They were absolutely adorable!

Speaking of adorable, the community center next door had a companion event just before beforehand to get everyone in the mood, creating the most adorable embroidered handkerchiefs! 

We had such a good time, talking about old traditions and discovering the more things change the more they stay the same. I can’t wait until we can do it again.
